They have been welcoming and helpful in answering questions and showing us the reality of a start-up. With Tasty Mates, Joe has added a dash of fun and friendship to the candy market, reminding us that success can be just as sweet as a gummy treat. There have been some tangible things too, but it’s also just nice to come here and be at similar stages of your journeys, or learn from people who are way further ahead in their career, and offer you advice or friendly conversation. Networking events are one thing, but I think the more authentic relationships often get you further because you don’t go in wanting something and they don’t come in wanting something from you.No two days at Tasty Mates is ever the same, something which I love about the company and the fast paced start-up environment.

We've mixed together our favourite crumble flavouring to make sure there's an explosion of flavours when you bite in! The idea of Tasty Mates is based on different flavours portraying various personality traits found in a friendship group. Meaning you’ll be able to dispose of us in home compost bins or heaps and the packs will disappear having precisely ZERO impact on the environment…but we can only do that with your help! Today we're asking for your invaluable help to continue putting our community first in everything we do.
The pair decided to develop their brand in the summer of 2019, and spent the next 18 months working with developers to perfect their gelatine-free recipe, while also working on their branding. When I say working at Tasty Mates has kept me on my toes, I mean literally… Little did I know I would be actually helping to make the sweets… YES making them 🤯! The co-founders Joe and Nick are constantly bouncing ideas off each other to further develop the business. We only had enough sweets left at that point to send each of them a couple of packs of each flavour, as we’d sent all the rest to investors. Once the UK has the infrastructure to support biodegradable products (such as composting bins in public places) we will make the move to this type of packaging that will have zero impact on our mate, the planet! We are partnered with Seven Clean Seas to offset any plastic wastage and pick up the equivalent of what we sell on some of the worst polluted beaches in the world. If not a co-founder, it would be good to at least have a mentor or someone to go through that emotional journey with you.We had a team of six people working around the clock, and often we would go up and help churn the sweets out! Sunshine had his own marketing agency, so Woolf worked with him at the same time, giving the pair some income to allow them to continue working on Tasty Mates.

And with Home Grown’s support, our members are empowered to dream big, take risks, and create something special. However, experience is power, and with the launch of Tasty Mates approaching, I’m reminded to share ours.The sweet-toothed, thirty-something entrepreneurs felt there was room in the gourmet sweet sector for their jelly baby-style confection — Tasty Mates. From initial conversations to managing budgets and starting to design what our stands will look like, this has definitely kept my creativity flowing! Nick and Joe founded it with an aim of creating the most delicious gourmet gummy sweets that have unique flavours portraying a personality trait often found in the friendship group such as the ‘The Perfect Pear’ or ‘The Berry Funny One’.
