About this deal

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have liver or kidney disease. Before taking this medicine For appropriate dosing in children younger than 6 years or body weight of 30 kg or less, there are other formulations more suitable. The pharmacokinetic profile of loratadine and its metabolites is comparable in healthy adult volunteers and in healthy geriatric volunteers. Bodyweight 30 kg or less: The 10 mg strength tablet is not appropriate in children with a body weight less than 30 kg. Loratadine is rapidly and well-absorbed. Concomitant ingestion of food can delay slightly the absorption of loratadine but without influencing the clinical effect. The bioavailability parameters of loratadine and of the active metabolite are dose proportional.

You may only need to take loratadine on a day when you have symptoms, for instance if you've been exposed to a trigger such as animal hair. Or you may need to take it regularly to prevent symptoms, such as hay fever during spring and summer.Among these subjects (12 years and older), 1000 subjects with CIU were enrolled in placebo controlled studies. A once daily 10mg dose of loratadine was superior to placebo in the management of CIU as demonstrated by the reduction of associated itching, erythema and hives. In these studies the incidence of somnolence with loratadine was similar to placebo. Use: Temporary relief of symptoms associated with hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies (e.g., runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, itching of the nose/throat) If you take too many tablets: Talk to a doctor straight away. Go to your nearest hospital casualty department. Take your medicine and this leaflet with you. Loratadine is available in 5mg tablets, 10mg tablets, and syrup. Tablets are best to give to dogs, so round up or down the dosage to the nearest half tablet. For example, if the dosage works out to be 4mg, give one 5mg tablet. If the dosage is 12mg give two and a half 5mg tablets (makes 12.5mg). Approximately 27% of the dose is eliminated in the urine during the first 24 hours. Less than 1% of the active substance is excreted unchanged in active form, as loratadine or DL.

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to loratadine or to desloratadine (Clarinex).Remember, keep this and all other medicines out of the reach of children, never share your medicines with others, and use loratadine only for the indication prescribed. Loratadine, the active ingredient in Loratadine 10 mg Tablets, is a tricyclic antihistamine with selective, peripheral H1-receptor activity.

Do not swallow the tablet whole. Allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing. If desired, you may drink liquid to help swallow the dissolved tablet.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding use

Human histamine skin wheal studies following a single 10mg dose has shown that the antihistamine effects are seen within 1-3 hours reaching a peak at 8-12 hours and lasting in excess of 24 hours. There was no evidence of tolerance to this effect after 28 days of dosing with loratadine. Try to take loratadine at about the same time every day. Choose a time that is easy to remember. What if I forget to take it? Some chewable dosage forms of loratadine may contain phenylalanine. Talk to your doctor before using these forms of loratadine if you have phenylketonuria (PKU). Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

Swallow ordinary loratadine tablets with a drink of water, milk or juice. If the tablet has a score line across the middle, you can break it in half if you find it hard to swallow it whole. Do not chew it. Efficacy and safety of loratadine in children under 2 years of age has not been established. No data available. Loratadine Galpharm is a long-acting, tricyclic, non-sedating, selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist which inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory mediators from human mast cells and basophils. Claritin syrup is preserved in propylene glycol and should not be used in cats. Oral disintegrating loratadine tablets (also called "orodispersible" tablets) may contain xylitol, a sweetener which is toxic to dogs and should not be used in dogs. ReferencesPatients with severe liver impairment should be administered a lower initial dose because they may have reduced clearance of loratadine. An initial dose of 10 mg every other day is recommended for adults and children weighing more than 30 kg. Related/similar drugs prednisone, hydroxyzine, fluticasone nasal, montelukast, cetirizine, dexamethasone, triamcinolone How should I take loratadine? If you have severe liver problems your doctor or pharmacist may advise you to take the recommended amount every other day. If this applies to you, follow their instructions.
