About this deal

This is a very crazy read…kind of like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but simpler and madder in a this-is-from-a-child’s-perspective kind of way. The title says it all actually, when a boy seeks for something to trade for his friend Nathan’s two goldfish. Nathan rejects everything that the boy offers until the latter sets his eyes upon his dad. Nathan agrees, and the fun begins. Neil Gaiman is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty books, including Norse Mythology, Neverwhere, and The Graveyard Book. Among his numerous literary awards are the Newbery and Carnegie medals, and the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and Will Eisner awards. Originally from England, he now lives in America. The plan is based on an engaging text that allows for exciting opportunities to develop the children’s reading, writing and spoken language. This is athree-session spelling seed for the book The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfishby Neil Gaiman. Below is the coverage from Appendix 1 of the National Curriculum 2014.

Coverage: Word List Words There's this kid, y'see. And he had this really awesome bowl of goldfish. And he wouldn't take nothing in trade for 'em. Not Transformers. Not baseball cards or books. Not a punching bag. Not a penny whistle. Not a spaceship, puppet or clown doll. And I really wanted the goldfish, see. So that really only left Dad to, y'know, swap.Forgotten the title or the author of a book? Our BookSleuth is specially designed for you. Visit BookSleuth

Spelling Seeds have been designed to complement Writing Roots by providing weekly, contextualised sequences of sessions for the teaching of spelling that include open-ended investigations and opportunities to practise and apply within meaningful and purposeful contexts, linked (where relevant) to other areas of the curriculum and a suggestion of how to extend the investigation into home learning. What a weird and horrid book. Dark looming pictures and lots of people being horrible to each other. Threatening to tell tales on each other because they like someone / are adopted / are fat. Horrible. If you’d like to talk about the bartering system and the history of money, this Youtube video is informative and very funny. It’s for older children though. urn:lcp:dayiswappedmydad0000gaim:epub:2a30e7c2-6cee-4e94-b895-fe39d67cba58 Foldoutcount 0 Identifier dayiswappedmydad0000gaim Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t02065z1s Invoice 1652 Isbn 0060587016 I also enjoyed the exchanges and inevitable teasing between the brother and his sister. It was low-key, but realistic and entertaining. It seems that the father has a pretty high value as he has been traded by one child to the next leaving a trail that the son has to follow. This detailed English plan will support teachers in year 4 deliver an exciting and engaging persuasive unit. If I were a child and I were to read this, I bet I’d really enjoy it. But what I really liked about it is that it may slightly strike a chord with anyone who’s been a part of a typical family—you know, if you experienced petty sibling fights and noticed how your parents are sometimes oblivious to the *universe* haha. It’s all weird and cute. Why I Like This Book: I was attracted to this book by both the title (very unique, right?) and the artwork. What child hasn’t felt frustrated at one point by either a mother or father who’s completely wrapped up in something else?

Wow! I love Gaiman's work. Will have to find this one. I'm sure the library has it. The illustrations seem to glow in an old sepia-colored newspapery way so they pull me in to the text immediately. Reply

The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish - Goodreads

When Dad goes out to get some milk from the corner shop, a host of completely unexpected adventures befall him.

El Dia Que Cambie A Mi Padre Por Dos Peces De Colores / The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish (Spanish Edition) I enjoyed the matter-of-fact way in which the boy trades his dad for the two fish. Fish?!? His Dad is so boring that even goldfish seem more exciting! And I love how we never actually see the dad; he’s always hidden behind the paper! As the brother and sister begin the long search for their father it feels suspenseful. Where is he? Will they find him? What weird and wonderful objects has he been traded for?
