About this deal

Either way, it’s a bitter sweet pill to swallow, but if put into practice, is worth every second of suffering and pain that comes with it. At times I felt that I should not be sitting about reading and should be out there working on my 'better' self. If you like that you’ll probably like this book, personally I have no interest in Ultra Racing and while I appreciate the sport and the mindset needed, it got very old three hours in. The pain and fear that most dread is what he aspires to get through daily to test his mental resilience.

Also, his "Mental Lab" is barely ever mentioned, and the "Evolutions", or challenges, are not very explained and/or applicable for people in different situations. The tone of someone prepared to plunge deep inside their own soul to find the energy they need to keep up the fight and prevail! The interview with his mother is very enlightening to understand domestic abuse and how it is possible to escape to achieve greatness. In general, ‘Never Finished’ had plenty of stories of David and his personal life, the obstacles and how he overcame them with a number of pearls of wisdom. I'm a marathon runner myself and until you cover that distance you will never understand the kind of mental beast you need to become to do that. However, this book seemed to just be Goggins sharing story after story of accomplishing amazing feats without training and with major health problems. There is great beauty when you are involved in something that is so hard most people want it to end. Practical advice, coupled with insightful anecdotes, makes this book a valuable guide for anyone navigating internal struggles. Which world class athletes are pushing to the utmost limit for an event and then ending up having to fight to recover for the next year+ just to run again? He’s a man who came from a humble and troubled childhood and, through the force of sheer will, forged himself into one of the hardest motherf--kers that’s ever lived.

The combination of the superhuman spectacle of his accomplishments and the immense gravity of his words serves as one of the most potent motivational drugs that exist on God's green earth. It might be a good read for someone with a big goal, such as running their first marathon, to get you psyched up. While I like the audio, I own copies of both books as they’re definitely ones worth referring back to. but I think there's many components that make up the human existence and he has triple-downed on just the physical. That’s what I had to do based on the depth of the darkness I came from and the scale of my ambitions. When he’s not speaking, he works as an Advanced Emergency Technician in a big city Emergency Room and, during the summer, as a wildland firefighter in British Columbia. We make decisions based on how we feel about certain people and we let that negativity guide our steps.
